Concert: Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave. and Los Amigos Invisibles Coming to The Conga Room

By Andy J. Gordon

Two Grammy nominated bands are coming to The Conga Room at LA Live in downtown Los Angeles on February 12, 2011. Trombone Shorty and his band, Orleans Ave. play a unique style of music that they lovingly call Supafunkrock. Los Amigos Invisibles are a Latin dance band from Venezuela heavily indebted to funk and disco (with a dash of acid jazz.) The Conga Room show is sure to be an amazing night and tickets are going fast. Scroll down to see how you can purchase discounted tickets to the show.

Troy Andrews (www.tromboneshorty.com/), 24, has been playing in front of audiences since he was four years old. His nickname, Trombone Shorty, came from older brother James, a well respected bandleader and trumpeter. Troy was toting around his trombone when it was bigger than he was. He has been honing his skills in the New Orleans music scene, and when only 19, Shorty did a world tour with Lenny Kravitz. He later performed with U2 and Green Day during the re-opening of the New Orleans Superdome. In recent years, he has developed a dynamic singing style and incredible stage presence. With his supporting band of highly skilled musicians, Shorty plays a mix of rock, funk, jazz, hip-hop and soul. Their 2010 release, Backatown has received a Contemporary Jazz Grammy nomination.

Los Amigos Invisibles (http://beta.amigosinvisibles.com/english/) supported their growing reputation with a series of underground dance parties at the mostly deserted clubs of Caracas. Financial difficulties led the group to move to New York in 1997. They signed with David Byrne’s Luaka Bop imprint label and released their American debut, New Sound of Venezuelan Gozadera, in 1998. Arepa 3000 followed in 2000, Venezuelan Zinga Son 1 in 2004, and Superpop Venezuela in 2006. The band won their first career Latin Grammy in 2009 with the acclaimed studio album, Commercial.

Los Amigos Invisibles, the Latin dance band, is coming to The Conga Room.
