It would seem like Simon Baker, the star of the top-rated TV show “The Mentalist,” would make a good movie star. He has great looks and a winning smile, but somehow, he’s not a success (so far) on the big screen. Earlier in the year, a little-seen movie “The Lodger” starred Baker as a quirky border who is renting from a greedy couple while a serial murderer is terrifying their neighborhood. Now, in this little movie called “Not Forgotten,” he’s a soccer dad who is seeking the bad guys who have kidnapped his little girl.
The little girl’s stepmom, the Baker character’s second wife, is played by the super sexy Paz Vega, who made Adam Sandler’s “Spanglish” a watchable movie, and is breathtaking in her foreign film “Sex and Lucia.” The parents go on a campaign to find their daughter after the sheriff and FBI seem a bit like bunglers, and they run across a satanic cult that practices “Santa Muerte,” which is as deadly as it sounds.
The plot is a bit holey, and that’s not a religious thing. If you want to see a better slap at the Catholic Church, go see “Angels & Demons.”
