In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15), Tequila Cazadores partnered with Mexican-American chef and TV personality Aaron Sanchez to launch Bodega Bites. The Taco Tuesday event series is spotlighting taco recipes from local bodegas and mercados around the U.S. and on September 12, 2017, Tortilla Republic in West Hollywood, Calif., hosted the first event.
Chef Sanchez prepared a bold shrimp taco topped with sofrito, a vibrant salsa, as well as avocado and radishes. He also made a fried plantain taco with creamy black beans, heirloom pico de gallo and queso fresco. Additionally, Vallarta Supermarkets, home of the original carne asada, served up their al pastor taco and their carefully marinated carne asada taco.
The Tequila Cazadores was flowing all night as guests enjoyed a variety of special cocktails developed for the party. “The Good, The Bad & The Ugly” was a tangy blend of blanco tequila, mezcal, chile liqueur, perfect puree red pepper, red bell pepper, fresh lime juice, agave syrup and a tajin-salted rim. The “Cazadores Sangrita” was a spicy blend of the reposado tequila, bloody mary mix, orange juice, fresh lime juice and carrot habanero hot sauce. Additional cocktails were available as well.
Guests crowded the bar to taste the creative cocktails. The entire restaurant was packed as everyone enjoyed the delicious tacos and drinks. Outside, a mini mercado, grill and custom-designed Priority Bicycles with the Bodega Bites logo and mini-grills were set up for photo ops. Late that night, Cazadores ladies hit the streets on the bicycles to deliver Sánchez’s exclusive tacos to hungry patrons in the popular nightlife area of WeHo.
Bodega Bites moved to the Javelina Bar in Austin, Texas on September 19, 2017. Proceeds of that event went to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. The last event will be in in New York City on October 10, where renowned bodega Zaragoza will be dishing out its oven roasted carnitas taco, marinated in their home-style recipe using pig shoulder, and their exceptional beef tongue taco, boiled and served with fresh onion, cilantro and lettuce.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
1 1/2 part Tequila Cazadores Blanco
1/2 part Mezcal Blanco
1/2 part Aperol
1 part Perfect Puree
Red roasted bell pepper
3/4 fresh lime juice
3/4 part Agave syrup
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well and serve over the rocks in a double old fashioned glass with hibiscus chill salt rim.
The Cazadores Sangrita
2 parts tomato juice
¼ part orange juice
¼ part fresh lime juice
Splash of hot sauce
1 shot of Cazadores Reposado
