Del Frisco’s Grille has been perched across the street from the Santa Monica Pier since 2013, serving premium American classics like prime hand-cut steaks, freshly caught seafood and classic entrees with a twist. To change things up a bit for the winter season, the restaurant recently added several interesting dishes to their already successful menu.

Part of the Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group, a chain of high-end establishments around the country, Del Frisco’s Grille is an offshoot of the highly regarded Del Frisco’s Grille Double Eagle steakhouse in New York City.

The new menu items complement the selection of delicious steaks, chops and appetizers. We started with light, crispy artichoke beignets stuffed with fontina and Parmesan cheese and drizzled with a sweet basil dressing. Roasted baby beets served over a bed of whipped feta cheese and presented with a sherry vinaigrette came next; and both were excellent additions to the Grille’s appetizer choices.

Highlights from the new main courses included Quinn’s Filet Burger, made with house-ground Filet Mignon, bacon onion jam, arugula, Gorgonzola, Gruyere and grain mustard – a truly decadent combination. The Coffee-Braised Veal Shank with bacon, collard greens and toasted Sea Island red peas was a comfort food dream. For seafood lovers, the Pan-Seared Sea Scallops presented over goat cheese polenta, along with blistered tomato chermoula and pine nut gremolata is also an excellent choice.

The burger came with hand-cut parmesan fries which can be ordered as a stand-alone side dish. Other new sides that hit the mark were the truffled mac and cheese and the roasted asparagus. All this amazing food had to be paired with an equally fine wine and we knew that with a Wine Spectator award-winning wine list, Del Frisco’s Grille would suggest something terrific. We enjoyed Aquinas Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the fine selections available by the bottle or glass. Some guests also enjoyed the restaurant’s new signature cocktail, the VIP, made with Hawaiian pineapple infused Svedka Vodka.
