Concert: Soulive and Friends at the Roxy Theater

On December 16, 2010 Soulive (www.soulive.com) rocked the Roxy Theater with a little help from their talented friends, Nigel Hall, and Karl Denson. The band has been on a lengthy tour across the country. The LA show offered a mix of their old funk, jazz, and improvisation material, as well as highlights from their new tribute album, Rubber Soulive. That album reinterprets the Beatles classics. Nigel Hall, a brilliant vocalist and keyboard player is part of Soulive’s stable of talent at Royal Family Records, their own label. Karl Denson (www.karldenson.us,) who is a saxophone wizard, as well as accomplished flutist and vocalist, joined the band for a few of the tour stops including the one at the Roxy in LA. [...]

Concert: Soulive at the El Rey Theater

On Thursday, September 17, Soulive (www.soulive.com) shook the El Rey Theater with their unique blend of soul, funk, jazz, and improvisation. The band celebrated both their tenth album, and their ten-year anniversary. The New York-based band released “Up Here” on their brand new label, Royal Family Records, earlier this year. Concerts: The Long Beach Blues Festival

The Long Beach Blues Festival took place at the beautiful Rainbow Lagoon Park over Labor Day weekend. The weather was hot, and so was the music. The festival was a major fund-raiser for publicly supported radio station KKJZ, located at California State University in Long Beach and known as "America's Jazz and Blues Station." Celebrating their 30th anniversary, the festival had a world-class lineup of artists on September 5 and 6. [...]
